Initiating School Review

I have a colleague who works for his country's Ministry of Education. This nation is just beginning to explore initiating a self-review

process for schools. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, he wrote and asked me about how this has been approached in the U.S., including 5 questions. I replied to his questions, but felt that I was giving him a limited (one-person) viewpoint.

So, I decided to post his questions here and invite other educators to respond.

I'm listing each question on this page. Click on the link provided to go to an individual page for each individual question and add your comments. It would be helpful if you included you name at the end of the comment, but it's certainly not required. You don't need to answer every question to be a contributor.

Question 1: What is the best way to start/introduce the process (steps) for a country which is at the beginning of the road?

Question 2How can the schools be motivated to start and continue the "self-evaluation" process?

Question 3: How can we (the Ministry of Education Inspectorate Dept.) help schools establish their own "self evaluating bodies/procedures?"

Question 4: What are the dangers? and how can the negative factors be minimized?

Question 5: On the road to start "school self evaluation",  what are the lessons we can learn from the U.S. experience?
